Archives & Collections

The Cooma-Monaro Historical Society maintains a growing and carefully managed archive of historical records relating to the Monaro region. Our collections include photographs, newspapers, personal letters and diaries, maps, plans, oral histories, and other documentary material. These resources preserve the social, cultural, and environmental history of the district and are catalogued and safeguarded for research, education, and future generations.

Museum & Exhibitions

We curate exhibitions and care for heritage collections that reflect the development of life on the Monaro, from its natural and Indigenous history through to pastoral settlement, town life, industry, and community organisations. Our exhibitions aim to interpret the region’s past in an engaging and accessible way, supporting public education, tourism, and community pride.

Family & Local History Research

Our experienced volunteers provide assistance with family and local history research, including genealogy, property and land records, early settlers, historic homesteads, and community stories. Whether you are researching ancestors, a local place, or a historical event, the Society offers guidance, access to resources, and local knowledge to support your research.
